Wet Tropics Gravel Ride

Paluma – Hidden Valley – Mt Fox – Wallaman – Ingham

3 nights, 4 days

2023 Ride Dates:​

• For 2023 we will be trialing custom group dates between April and the end of September. There is a minimum group size of 5 people.

Highlights:

• Wet tropics rainforest, mining history and waterfalls at Paluma

• Spot a platypus at Running River

• Watch out for cows as you ride over rolling hills in cattle country

• Climb Mt Fox, a relic of North Queensland’s volcanic past

• Visit Wallaman Falls, the highest single drop waterfall in the country

• Ride on quiet roads through cane fields to finish in Ingham

Distances:

Day 1: Paluma to Hidden Valley via Paluma Dam: 35-50km (extra loops, walks and side trips can be added)

Day 2: Hidden Valley to Mt Fox: 50km (+ extra 10km to/from Mt Fox crater)

Day 3: Mt Fox to Wallaman: 86km

Day 4: Wallaman to Ingham: 50km (or 86km via Abergowrie)

About:

This is a supported tour, with all meals and water provided, along with a support car for mechanical assistance. A Physiotherapist will also be available to assist with injuries/strapping if required.  You can ride each day at your own pace and your equipment will be transported each day in the support vehicle.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is camping and you will need to bring your own tent and camping gear.  The camp grounds are basic, with wood fired showers and toilets.  There is an option of staying at Hidden Valley Cabins* the first night however you will still need camping gear for the other nights.  Remember we will be camping at elevation and it can be cold at night!

Bike type:

It is recommended that you ride a gravel bike or mountain bike.  The majority of the ride is on gravel roads, but there is the option for some more technical riding on Day 1.  We will provide a track pump and some basic spares and tools, however please ensure you carry appropriate spares and tools with you for the ride each day.

There is an option to hire a hard tail mountain bike for the tour for $200.

Transport to the start/finish:

You will need to organise your own transport to the start at Paluma and back from Ingham.  There is parking available at Paluma if you want to leave your car there.

Cost: $750 per person, minimum of 5 people.
